It started with the idea of getting a cheap MIG to learn arc welding on (I know how to mostly not ruin what I’m working on with oxy-aceteylene) and it has now turned into a decent MIG machine and a cheap-ass plasma cutter and now I’ve started looking at the multi-mode machines... there are a few MIG-TIG-stick (no cutter) that’re 110v... and a few TIG-stick-cut (no MIG) that’re 110v... I remember seeing a 4-in-1 that does all four, but it was both expensive and 230v only... blah, I should probably stick with the MIG + cheap cutter...

How much fab do you really plan on doing?

If you’re not *really* going to require the cutter I’d spend all your cash on a welder and supplies. If the $ allows you to upgrade electrical service in your garage to run a 220V welder I’d totally do that.

I haven’t fired up our cutter in a long time. Usually it’s easier to use a saw or cutoff wheel.

I’d probably try to retain MIG capability in the overall plan. Just for thin sheet purposes.

Well, I used to do metal sculpture with oxy-acetylene, and I’ve been itching to get back into it. I used to free-hand a lot of stuff with the cutting torch, and the idea of being able to do that with the plasma cutter appeals... I currently don’t *OWN* a garage, (but thats hopefully going to change in the near-ish future) I rent, so I’m pretty much stuck with the available electrical service, which is 110v/20A. Plus, I like the idea of portability and being able to use the unit anywhere I have a regular outlet...

Got one of these last winter, been in love with it ever since:

By the time you add a cart, decent wire, gas bottle, a cheap auto darkening helmet, gloves, jacket, etc, it’s about $1000 all in.

get a home depot MIG and since you have Oxy acetlyene welding setup. You can cut tons of crap with oxy cutting torch and weld braze heat and all kinds of crap. And having the MIG weld nearly everything This might just be my opinion but I would try to stay away from off brand multi process machines I would think complication would make reliability suffer.

What is funny is I was today looking at welders and I figured Why not just get 300 amp Lincoln MIG it should be big enough for anything I would need to weld. haha
